Bruce shares insights and lessons for leading in a technical environment based on his vast experience in the military, serving as General and CIO of the US Army as well as his current global experience with Jacobs, leading their digital transformation initiative.

Bruce Crawford

Lieutenant General (Retired) Bruce T. Crawford is an inspired, thought leader of character with over thirty-five years of leadership, executive management, national security, enterprise information technology (IT) and cybersecurity experience.

After retiring from the U.S. Army in October 2020, Bruce joined Jacobs as the Senior Vice President for Strategic Development in the Critical Mission Solutions Line of Business. Since that time, he has also contributed significantly to growing the business as Senior Vice President, Growth and Sales. In his current role as Chief of Innovation (“Beyond If”), Chair of the Digital Advisory Group and Director of the Global Digital Center of Excellence, Bruce leads the company’s global digital transformation initiative and promulgation of innovation as a core element of the Jacobs culture and growth strategy.

Prior to joining Jacobs’ Bruce served as the U.S. Army’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and senior IT accountable official, where he performed the duties as the principal enterprise IT and cybersecurity policy advisor to the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff. Bruce’s duties and responsibilities also included execution and oversight of the Army’s $15B annual IT budget, the Army's data and cloud migrations and delivery of IT capabilities from the tactical edge to the enterprise at 288 locations in 143 countries world-wide.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Bruce was commissioned through South Carolina State University's Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program on May 28, 1986, after graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University.

During his 34 years of service, Bruce served in a variety of positions at the operational, strategic and tactical levels in every major theater of operations, that includes Europe, the Pacific and Southwest Asia.

Other executive assignments include oversight of the Army’s IT hardware and software global logistics enterprise as Commanding General, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM)/Installation Commander of 21,000 employees at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland; J6, Director of Cyber/CIO U.S. European Command and Commander 516th Signal Brigade, U.S. Army Pacific.

Bruce’s awards and decorations include the Black Engineer Of The Year Association’s (BEYA) 2020 Black Engineer Of The Year, the Distinguished Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He is also authorized to wear the Army Combat Action Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and the U.S Army Ranger Tab.

Bruce is a member of the Association of the U.S. Army and the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA). Board of Directors memberships include Avalara Inc., The George C. Marshall International Center and The Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association’s (AFCEA) Executive Committee.
